LAPIDARIUM
Lapidarium is a place where specimens of natural stones, sculptures, fragments of historic buildings, monuments, etc. are gathered. In this case gravestones.
In 1970/1980 the German cemetery in Mościce was liquidated and the tombstones were thrown into the nearby excavation site of an opencast lignite mine.
More than 30 years after the liquidation of the German necropolis it was decided to restore the memory of the burials of the pre-war Blumberg residents. After the tombstones were excavated from the mine’s pits and the ground was prepared next to the modern municipal cemetery, the idea was implemented in 2015. This was achieved thanks to the determination and commitment of the villagers and the municipality, the local Valunteer Fire Department and the Municipality of Witnica with the financial support of the German Landsmanship.
